"Once a Scout--

Making A Difference

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

"Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned"

Challenge Me

"I have suggested Scouting as a good thing for Boys, because I began it myself when I was a Boy, and I know that if you want to enjoy life and get on, a great step towards it is to learn Scouting while you are young"

"A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room"

"Fun, fighting, and feeding! These are the three indispensable elements of the boy's world"

"There is no teaching to compare with example"

Quotes from Robert Baden-Powell
Boy Scouting's First Scoutmaster

The Road Less Traveled

Robert Frost 1874-1963

"The Only Things We Keep
Permanently Are Those
We Give Away"

"Achievement Consists of Doing
Useful Things That Most People Say
Cannot Be Done"

Waite Phillips 1883-1964
Philmont Scout Ranch

Philmont Hymn
Scout Vesper

What is Scout Spirit?
"Your standing as a scout
does not depend so much on
the skills of your hands or
the badges on your merit badge
sash, as on the spirit in your heart,
on what you are willing to do
for others, on whether you are
doing your very best to live
the Scout Oath and Scout Law"

The Scout Law:

A Scout is Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
and Reverent

Friends of Scouting Night

Friends of Scouting Night

All Scouts, Parents and family members are invited to meet Judy Christensen, our Troop and Pack Unit Commissioner. Judy has been a long time supporter of the Scouting program here in Vermont. Judy will lead a Friends of Scouting Presentation on our first Sunday evening Troop meeting in March. Each year as part of the overall fund raising effort of the council, we enroll as Friends of Scouting, our alumni, Scouting families, volunteers and other Scouting friends in the communities we serve. These friends make a financial investment in the Scouting program to help ensure the best possible program for our Scouts and continued success in the future. FOS makes up almost one-fifth of the total income of the Green Mountain Council each year. Please join us at this important event. Be as generous as you can, its for our Scouts!

Troop 658 Highlights

Yes, I want to join the Boy Scouts!!!

Boy Scouting and the Spirit of Adventure

Many prominent American men in business, the professions and government have backgrounds as Boy Scouts. The American space program is a case in point. Of the 312 pilots and scientists selected as astronauts since 1959, 180 were Scouts. Of the 12 men to walk on the surface of the moon, 11 were Scouts. The first human to set foot on the moon, Neil A. Armstrong, was an Eagle Scout.

Once someone asked Baden-Powell, "Be prepared for what?"
"Why, for any old thing!!!"  he replied.

"When people see a boy in a scout uniform, they expect someone of good character, who is prepared to the best of his ability and ready to help those around him"

"I have always been fond of the saying that "Scouting is a game with a purpose" Even today we can still say, Scouting is about three things: It's about fun. It's about values, and it's about learning. Fun is the game, learning is the process, and values are the purpose."
